3½ Gauge South African Railways Class 15F

This engine, owned and driven by Andrew Giffen of the Reading SME, was completed in 1970 by Ron Etter in Johannesburg and was awarded a silver medal at the ME Exhibition in 1976. Despite being 3½ in gauge, this loco is comparable in size to a 5 in gauge 9F. Features include a working steam/oil cataract reversing engine, steam/manual rocking grate, vacuum brakes, a 48000 rpm turbo-generator and a grate area of 36 sq.ins.
