The universal pillar tool is a classic design from the workshop of the
late G.H.Thomas.
Its construction was serialised in Model Engineer and also in his book of the same name.
With a number of attachments it can be used as a sensitive drill, and a staking
and tapping tool. A particular use is to stamp index dials. It is a good
exercise in tool making skill.
