Workshop – Week 6

Another week gone and the rear door frame is in, the lintels are in and the first wall plate added. All the remaining materials appear to have been delivered, including the tiles. Photo’s attached. Please think about what you would like to see/have in this facility and let one of the Committee know; it is not all about maintaining the railway.DSCN1831 DSCN1833 DSCN1836 DSCN1837 DSCN1838

Workshop – Week 5

DSCN1821 DSCN1822 DSCN1828 DSCN1827 DSCN1826 DSCN1825Week 5 already but at least the exterior brickwork is going up at a pace.

I would like to hear your wishes for the uses the workshop should be used for; not just the maintenance of the railway; but for what you would like it to include. It must be available to all members for all types of engineering. My e-mail on the members list or through the web site, or just collar one of the Committee.

More progress photos attached.

Workshop Update

Work started on-site on 2nd September and due to the good weather has progressed rapidly in the first week. The site has been cleared, foundations dug, checked by the building inspector and filled with concrete. One set back has been that the original soakaway is under the proposed building, requiring more excavation and longer pipework. A selection of photos will hopefully be attached.

It is with deepest regret that we inform you of the death of our President, Geoff Sheppard, following a major heart attack. He died on Wednesday 27th March 2013 whilst undergoing treatment at the Bristol Heart Institute (BRI) having been transferred from Frenchay Hospital, where he was taken immediately after his collapse.

Geoff has been a major contributor to the Model Engineering Hobby in general and BSMEE in particular for many years. Amongst his many credits he was editor of Model Engineers’ Workshop and held several management posts within BSMEE, culminating in his appointment as President in 2012.

Geoff was a lovely, kind hearted man and, when asked for a favour or advice, nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and our deepest condolences go out to his wife Gill and their children.

The funeral was on Friday 12th April at 12 noon at Westerleigh Crematorium
and afterwards at The Kendleshire Golf Club.
